IGI 4625 (Parafflex® 4625A) is a paraffin-based formulation from IGI (The International Group, Inc.) for scented pillar, votive and other molded candles. It is supplied in slabs, sets hard with an opaque finish, and releases cleanly from molds.
Why makers use IGI 4625
- Hard, freestanding pillars and votives
- Smooth, opaque surface that shows colour well
- Contracts as it cools, which helps release from the mold
- Pre-blended: melt, scent and pour
How to use IGI 4625
- Melt the wax to about 185°F (85°C) in a double boiler or wax melter.
- Add fragrance (up to 10%; around 6% is a good starting point) and dye. Remove from heat and stir for about two minutes.
- Pour into molds at about 180°F (82°C). Warming the mold slightly gives a smoother surface.
- As the candle cools, poke relief holes near the wick to release trapped air.
- Do a second pour to fill the sinkhole left by shrinkage.
- Let the candle set at least 24 hours before releasing it, and allow about 5 days for the fragrance to develop.
