Golden Brands 464 is a soy container wax made from soybean oil with a soy-based additive. It is a soft wax with a low melt point, supplied in flakes, and one of the most widely used waxes for jar and tin candles.
Why makers use 464
- Soft, creamy tops in jars and tins
- Good glass adhesion
- Low melt point, so it melts quickly into a wide melt pool
- Flakes are easy to weigh and melt, with no cutting
How to use Golden Brands 464
- Heat the wax to about 185°F (85°C) and add fragrance, stirring gently for about two minutes.
- Let it cool and pour at 125ā145°F (52ā63°C).
- Slightly warmed jars and slow cooling in a draft-free room help reduce frosting and wet spots.
- Cure for 1ā2 weeks before burn testing.
Because 464 has a low melt point, candles made with it can soften in hot weather or during summer shipping. For warm-weather orders, Golden Brands 444 has a higher melt point. Evaluate wick size for each fragrance and dye combination.
Available in 5 lb (2.3 kg), 10 lb (4.5 kg), 20 lb (9.1 kg) and 45 lb (20.4 kg).
