BW 921 Natural Pillar Wax Blend – 100% Soy Wax

BW 921 is an all-natural pillar blend from Blended Waxes Inc., made from 100% soybean oil with soy-based additives, for molded and scented pillar candles. It sets with a smooth, creamy, off-white finish and is hard enough to stand without a container.

• Good mold release
• Pre-blended, no additives required
• High fragrance load: up to 10%
• Will not creep or slump at temperatures up to 130°F (54°C)
• Accepts dyes and colorants well
• Bloom resistant

How to use BW 921

• Melt slowly in a double boiler or wax melter.
• Add fragrance up to 10% and stir gently for about two minutes.
• Pour into molds at 160–180°F (71–82°C) and let the candle set undisturbed.
• Recap: top up any sinkhole around the wick once the candle has partly cooled. The manufacturer notes the pour process may include recapping.
• Cure for 1–2 weeks before burn testing.

Wick selection for pillars

A pillar wick has to consume the wax without breaking through the outer wall. Starting points for testing:

• 2" pillar: start with a small wick and check the melt pool depth after four hours.
• 3" pillar: start with a medium wick, aiming for a melt pool that stops short of the outer wall.
• 4"+ pillar: consider a large wick or a multi-wick layout to avoid tunnelling.

A well-wicked pillar keeps a thin unmelted shell so it holds its shape as it burns. Burn test every wax, fragrance, dye and diameter combination before production.

Troubleshooting

• Candle sticks in the mold: let the wax cool fully before releasing. A short chill can help, but avoid sudden temperature changes.
• Frosting on the surface: common with soy. Pour slightly cooler and cool slowly in a draft-free space.
• Sinkholes around the wick: expected with soy. Recap with a small second pour.
• Weak scent throw: make sure fragrance was mixed in fully and give the candle a full cure before testing.
